Happy Halloween

Okay, I'll admit it has been way too long since the last post. Sammy is now 4 mos old and getting bigger everyday. We had a fun Halloween. Stacy and the kids met me at my work for some Trick or Treating. Then we enjoyed a nice spaghetti dinner courtesy of our friends, spent some time with Grandma and Grandpa and then headed home.

This year we went with a family theme...

Stacy stayed home with Sammy to entertain the Trick or Treaters and I took Blake and Emma knocking doors around the neighborhood. This year Emma got into it with her brother. She definitely likes Reese's Peanut Butter Cups...just like her dad.

Birthday Party for Grandma Kathy & Sammy

Day two for Sammy was also his Grandma Kathy's Birthday. Aunt Sara came to visit the hospital and brought the birthday party with her complete with some delicious cake. Grandma, Grandpa, Great-Grandma Timlick, Aunt Sara, Alex, Hailey, Great Aunt Maxine, Blake & Emma all came for the party and we had a really good time.

I call this one the triple S...Stacy, Sara and Samuel...all smiles!

He's Here! Mom & Baby are Doing Great!

Our little boy was born today, June 27th, 2007, at 5:18 pm. He weighed 7 lbs. 3 oz. (his great aunt Maxine was the only one to guess the correct weight) and measured 20 inches long. As you can see he has a pretty full head of brown hair.

Mom and baby are doing very well. We have decided to name him Samuel Devin (Sammy). He is quite the handsome little kid if I do say so myself. Dad and Grandma Kathy sat in on the c-section cheering mom on. Stacy did great through the entire surgery.

Sammy's first visitors arrived at 7 pm...it was Blake, Emma and Grandpa. Blake and Emma helped give Sammy his first bath...Blake is very curious about his new brother. Emma, however, still isn't sure what she thinks...she is kind of keeping her distance.

The BIG Day Has Arrived

Well, it has been a busy morning. We took the kids out for an early breakfast as Stacy enjoyed her last meal before the 8-hour food/drink lockdown before surgery. At breakfast we all made our guesses how many pounds we thought the baby would be...we even got input from our waitress, Sarah. We sent out an email to our extended families and asked them to guess the baby's weight...stayed tuned for the results. We have debated what the prize should be for the winner. We are thinking of offering the opportunity to clean Stacy's tiolet's for a year as the big prize.

We loaded the kids and all their stuff up as they are going to stay with Grandma and Grandpa for a few days while we are in the hospital. Blake is very excited to meet his new brother...you can just tell the wait is drving him nuts. We all can't wait to meet this little boy.

Stacy dropped me off at work for a couple hours and then she is taking the kids over to grandpa's to get them settled. Kathy will be coming with us tonight as we go for Stacy's C-section surgury scheduled appointment at 5 pm. More to come...

Blake and Emma....What's New?

We are looking forward to welcoming a new baby into our home and family at the end of June. Everyone has been busy making all the plans.

Willy, 'the dog prophet', was right in guessing what the baby will be...we now know we are having a boy.

First Christmas

Just as Emma was settling in she was quickly introduced to some of our family's Christmas traditions.

As a family we commented she is the best stocking stuffer we have ever received. A stomach virus hit Blake a few days before Christmas then passed to Grandma then Grandpa. Because of this instead of going to Grandma and Grandpa's for Christmas morning we just stayed at home and spent a fairly quiet morning together. Emma sure looked cute in her Gingerbread outfit.

Blake was really into opening presents this year. I think he wanted to show off for his new baby sister a bit. Here is a picture of Blake wearing the wrapping paper on his head. Blake also continues to love Baseball. He got a Little Tikes Auto Pitch™ Batting Trainer and immediately put it to work. Jake did what he could to make sure he didn't get buried in all the debris.

The day after Christmas we enjoyed a Christmas dinner with the rest of the family at my second cousin Abby's house.

Well, Blake got to meet his baby sista shortly after she was born. He was curious at first, then decided he would rather play with the choo-choo in the waiting area. Here are some pictures that we were at least able to capture of their first meeting.

Emma Kathleen was born at 7:15 am today. She weighs 6 lbs. 8 oz. and is 20 in. long. She has a fair amount of dark hair. Mother and baby are back in their room enjoying a first feeding.

Delivery eve day

Well, we watched a C-section video, provided by the hospital, last night. After watching it Stacy wasn't sure if it made her feel any better about the surgery. Everything continues to look good. Stacy is pretty bored and ready for tomorrow to come. We are very excited to meet our new baby.

Surprise baby shower

Stacy is now 37 weeks -- full term.

Some of Stacy's friends surprised her with an in-house baby shower. There is a room down the hall designated as the family lounge where we held the event. Stacy had a great time being showered by their love and kindness. Lots of pink clothes, blankets, ribbons, bows, barrettes and other accessories. The food and company were marvelous--a nice boost to get her through the weekend.

Blake continues to do well spending time with Grandma and Grandpa and visiting mom a couple times during the day. He got a visit from his cousin Abby last night which always means good fun. They had a great time eating raisins, drinking juice and playing chase. Here is a picture of them. Or check out the action shot shot of Blake and Abby created by Abby's mom and dad.

Heartbeat that is...baby is still looking good. We are really getting excited for her arrival. Stacy's C-section is scheduled to take place on Monday (12/20) @ 7 am.

We took Stacy on a hospital field trip today--we went to the cafeteria (whoo-hoo) and had dinner. We came back to find our friend Jeff had come to visit us with a plate of homemade cookies which were delicious (yes, that's right, I said 'were' because they are already gone).

Scott and Christa sent flowers and they are very pretty--thanks you guys.

We 'could' be home in a week

Stacy is now 36 weeks.

I guess no news is good news. Blake has mastered the art of waiting. Perhaps he learned this position from one of Grandma and Grandpas' cats.

Stacy is doing great. She is actually taking it easy which can sometimes be a challenge for her :). The activities committee helped out a ton and covered the Christmas dinner at church today beautifully in her absence (Thanks Celese & Sione, Katie, Marty & Matt, Brian & Daniell and Kathy & David -- we really appreciate your hard work).

Thanks also to Jamie for running between our house, the hospital and Emerson taking care of all Stacy's school work. Thanks to grandpa and grandma for watching Blake and running around for us. And thanks Leigh, Kent and family for watching Jake...he loves your house.

Karen and Dex sent flowers today...they are beautiful, thank you.

Moving In / Tour of O.R.

We have moved in and tried to make everything as comfortable as possible. I brought the computer in so we could have access to e-mail and the Internet. Stacy is working on our Christmas card and of course we still have some work to do on the family calendar--so we have easy-going projects to make the time pass a little more quickly. KCLS has kept the DVD holds coming so we always have movies to watch.

One of the head nurses gave us an O.R. tour and we had a surgery dress rehearsal--man that gown is hot and the mask is miserable (I am hoping not to pass out during the c-section).

Sara dropped by and stocked us with our own personal library of books and magazines. She brought pumpkin, chocolate-chip bread which is very tasty.

Vanessa dropped by later with DVD's and lots of laughs.

The Day After

Well we tried to sleep the best we could with all we had on our minds. Stacy got to sleep on those hard, miserable birthing beds. We did sleep a bit until the nurse came in about 2:30 to monitor Stacy. I was able to go back to sleep but I don't think stacy slept that much from that point on.

The next morning the phones started to ring and many of you were interested in what had happened and how Stacy was doing.

We quickly realized some blogging might be a good way to keep many of our friends and family informed on Stacy and the baby's condition.

We have had some great nurses. Later Thursday evening they moved us to a room on the 4th floor. This will be our permanent home until we go home. They told us to make ourselves comfortable and bring anything we wanted from home so Stacy went to work making a list.

They have been monitoring the baby several times throughout the day and she looks great. Her heartbeat is strong and she is moving a bunch.

Today's visitor's included Grandma, Grandpa, Blake, Jamie & baby Evan, Rhonna & John, Bishop Dudley.

Wake up call

Stacy woke up Tuesday morning around 5 am to find she was bleeding. We woke up our friends and neighbors (Mike and Chandra) to stay with Blake until Grandma could make it to our house and then raced to the hospital. The ride to the hospital seemed to take forever as Stacy could not feel any movement from the baby. We arrived, several nurses rushed to our aide and got Stacy in a room connected to monitors and thankfully the baby was doing fine. Vitals were great and lots of movement. Shortly after that her doctor arrived and went to work ordering some tests. The bleeding eventually stopped and they continued to monitor the baby during the day.

Later that day, we decided to have an ultrasound done by a Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) doctor and they found Stacy has placenta previa (placenta covering the opening to the cervix) read more here. I think she is borderline full vs. partial previa (depends who we ask but it looks like the placenta has basically grown to the point where it is now covering the opening for the cervix and it hasn’t been that way her entire pregnancy).

Based on her history we decided with the doctor that it was probably best she stay in the hospital until she delivers as she is at risk to have more bleeding. She is now 35 weeks and a couple days. We went back to MFM an hour later to have an amniocentesis to find out if the baby's lungs were fully matured.

A few hours later we got the results back. The level they measured needed to be at 55 for fully mature, our baby is at 43. So it looks like more waiting. They will give Stacy a two part steroid injection to help speed up the development of the lungs.

After her first injection we headed to bed for our first night at the hospital.
